Egypt national team goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shennawy, has been named as the best goalkeeper of the Africa Cup of Narions (AFCON) group stages.
El-Shennawy played a key role in helping Egypt finish second in Group D and reach the round of 16. His various heroic saves helped them secure a win against Guinea-Bissau and avoid a humiliating defeat to Nigeria.
In his three appearances, the 33-year-old made eight saves, the fourth most by any other goalkeeper.
El-Shennawy also kept a total of two clean sheets, making him just one of six goalkeepers to do so during this tournament.
El-Shennawy will now face his greatest challenge of the tournament yet, as the Pharaohs will now face Group B leaders Ivory Coast, who are yet to lose a single game, in the round of 16. The match will be held next Wednesday, January 26 at the Douala Stadium in Japoma.
