As part of his stride to assess the state of sporting facilities in the regions, NSA Boss Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai and his team visited Kailahun on Sunday, 21st July, 2024.

The move will give the NSA comprehensive statistics as to the number of facilities under Government watch, those owned by communities, those owned privately, those in good conditions and those requiring facelift.

Speaking during that tour, Dr. Abdulai thanked the people of Kailahun for supporting the facility assessment drive. “The community field is damaged, and we need massive financial support to fix it as it hosts other sports like basketball and volleyball. If we improve it, the field can also accommodate athletics and tennis.

“In the past, most parents would not allow their children to do sports. We were all forced to go to school. Today, sport has changed. Through sports, many communities have produced billionaires, who in turn have helped fix their communities and addressed major societal problems, including the creation of employment,” Dr. Abdulai said.

On geographical basis, the NSA Boss remarked that much is not known about Kailahun when it comes to sports. “With the right facilities, more people will take an interest in sports, and through this, we can have millionaires, employ thousands of people, and make the place more attractive,” he pointed out.

Informing Dr. Abdulai about the status of sports in that of the country, Vice Chairman of Kailahun District Football Association (KAIFA) Philip Foday Momoh said the field in question is under the control of the Kailahun District Council. “We have applied so much effort to have control over it as sports people, but all have not yielded dividend. This is our main challenge.

“We appreciate the visit of the NSA, and we are looking forward to a change,” he told Dr. Abdulai.
