The Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, has initiated groundbreaking negotiations to start paying national coaches from all performing sporting disciplines.

The move, when completed, will enhance commitment from coaches, boost regular guided, trainings and bring to the fore competitive recruitment based on NSA’s guidelines.

This all-out success will help monitor the progress of talents and upscale the country’s chances of securing gold in international tournaments.

As engagements are underway, Dr Abdulai said National Sports Organizations (NSOs) should move from just participating, which has little force, to competing for global slots through winning.

“We are now in a new era. NSOs should regard sport as a serious business by organizing national competitions to express presence and tap raw talents, adhere to good governance structures, and perform internationally. It is through these mechanisms that Government can come in to help.

“The Government is ever committed to investing in sports and in young people. It has created thousands of jobs and enhanced the lives of many through this means,” the NSA Boss remarked.

His first blow to pull this initiative off saw his push for the payment of Leone Stars coaches from crippling quarterly basis to monthly. Such a boost gave rise to the good results Sierra Leone earned against Djibouti and Burkina Faso in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

The National Sports Authority is an agency of Government established by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to promote, encourage, develop, and supervise all sports and sporting activities in Sierra Leone and to provide for other related matters.
