The Sierra Leone’s National Sports Authority (NSA), led by Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, convened a strategic meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Jacek Jankowski, and his team at the EU Head Office in Freetown to strengthen collaboration aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure across the country.

In his presentation, Dr. Abdulai outlined the NSA’s ongoing initiative to ship and install 30 sets of artificial turf, generously donated by sports institutions and individuals in Denmark. He noted, however, that resource constraints have slowed progress, particularly with regard to shipment.

“The NSA is challenged with the costs associated with transporting these artificial turfs. Currently, the government remains the sole financier of all sports and sports-related activities, but this model is challenging considering the nation’s other priority. That’s why we are reaching out to reputable development partners like the European Union for support,” Dr. Abdulai stated.

Ambassador Jankowski commended the NSA leadership for its proactive approach. He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to continued diplomatic engagement, especially in areas that support youth empowerment and national development.

” Our doors are always open to partnerships that contribute to Sierra Leone’s development, especially in sectors like sports, which keep young people meaningfully engaged” Ambassador Jankowski concluded.

The National Sports Authority is a government agency established by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to promote, develop, and supervise all sports and sporting activities in Sierra Leone.
