Three female staff members of NSA recommended by Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, to the Chinese Embassy in Freetown, through the Ministry of Sports, has departed the shores of Sierra Leone today to take part in a two-week anti-doping capacity building programme in China.

The empowerment programme was solicited from the Chinese Embassy in Freetown through the effort of the Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima. The endeavour is geared towards promoting gender parity in the sports sector.

The beneficiaries include Madam Abigail Sahid, Admin Officer; Cecelia Kainesse, Secretary to the Authority; Hannah Mannah, Secretary; and Alfred Terry Deputy I.T Officer

Dr. Abdulai’s dedication to see the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act 2022 being rolled out in sports aligns with the need to broaden the campaign, pushing for President Bio’s call to offer 30% qouta to women regarding employment, training and the improving of their access and participation in financial institutions and decision-making positions.

Speaking before the departure of the trio , Dr. Abdulai said:

“This is the beginning of what has been missing at the Agency. Under my leadership, every staff member will be exposed to different capacity building opportunities nationally as well as internationally. ”

It could be recalled that the NSA, through the NOC, presented three female athletes out of the four that represented the country in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, making Sierra Leone the only country with 75% women representation in France.

The National Sports Authority is an agency of government established by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to promote, encourage, develop, and supervise all sports and sporting activities in Sierra Leone and to provide for other related matters.
