Sierra Leone has ended the 2024 Paris Olympics without a medal. Joshua Wyse was eliminated from the Men’s 50m Freestyle event on Thursday, August 1st, 2024.
Olamide Sam finished sixth in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, with a time of 42.87 seconds, beating her previous record of 48.51 seconds.
17-year-old Judoka , Fatmata Koroma was eliminated in the round of 16 in the 57kg women’s category by Chinese Taipei veteran Lien Chen-Ling at the Arena Champ-de-Mars.
Sprinter Georgiana Sesay failed to progress in the Women’s 100m heat at the Paris Olympics. Although Sesay had recorded a time of 11.99 seconds in Heat 4 and finished fourth, she did not secure a place in the 100m.

Sierra Leone is not investing in sports (apart from football) but have the arrogance of expecting to win medals. Let’s stop fooling ourselves and push for equal funding from the GOSL to all NATIONAL SPORTING DISCIPLINES/ORGANIZATIONS.
Until then, we will only be winning trophies and medals in our dreams. I’m not guessing or assuming…I’m a sports administrator and we get zero support but “they” expect us to perform miracles when we send our poorly trained athletes out there.
