Former Sierra Leonean international football player and Ports Authority head coach, Lamin Bangura has tragically lost his life following a fatal accident on the Bo highway.

The incident occurred as Bangura was en route to fulfill a scheduled fixture against Kahunla Rangers in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League. Despite efforts to save him, Bangura succumbed to his injuries at Rokupa Hospital in Freetown.

Bangura, a revered figure in Sierra Leonean football, had an illustrious career both as a player and a coach. He proudly represented his nation as part of the Leone Stars and notably guided Diamond Stars to victory in the 2013 Sierra Leone Premier League, leaving an indelible mark on the sport in his homeland.

The other members of the team involved in the accident, fortunately, escaped uninjured and have returned to Freetown.

The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has extended its heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the accident.

The league board also stated that due to this unfortunate event, the scheduled match between Kahunla Rangers and Ports Authority set for 27th March, 2024, has been canceled.

The incident is still under investigation as the Board committed to providing updates as more information becomes available.
