Sierra Leone’s male national Kabaddi team has been placed in Group D for the first-ever Beach Kabaddi World Cup, scheduled to take place in 2025. The draw, conducted on Saturday, August 23, in Malaysia, placed Sierra Leone alongside Sri Lanka, England, Canada, and China.

The tournament will feature 19 men’s teams divided into four groups, three containing five teams each and one with four. The event marks an important step in the international development of Kabaddi, a sport gaining recognition beyond its traditional base.

World Kabaddi Federation President Dr. Osama Said welcomed the participating nations, describing the tournament as a “significant step toward promoting Kabaddi globally.” He emphasized the sport’s teamwork, mental agility, and community spirit, noting that the federation remains committed to supporting its member states while fostering the game worldwide.

Dr. Said also pointed to the momentum gained from the earlier Kabaddi World Cup held in England in 2025, which introduced several new countries to the sport. “Today, we determine the path of competition for all teams,” he said, expressing hope for fair play, strong sportsmanship, and global visibility for beach Kabaddi.

The competition offers Sierra Leone a chance to demonstrate its growing Kabaddi talent against established international teams. Fans and analysts will be watching Group D closely to see how the Leone Stars perform in their first appearance at this level.
