The Sierra Leone U-17 Female team set a new record when they defeated the Central African Republic 2-0 on Saturday at the Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
Goals from Aminata Kamara in the first-half and Maseray Turay in the 60th minutes were enough for the Sierra Leone Female team to book their place into the next round.
The match was part of a two-legged tie in the Preliminary Rounds of the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualifiers.
The young female team has, for the first time, crossed the first preliminary round and will face next door neighbours Guinea in the second round this March.
Reacting to the victory, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President, Thomas Brima congratulated the young team on their achievement.
“Congratulations to our girls for their exceptional performance and dedication,” the SLFA President said.
He urged football fans to continue to celebrate the success of the U-17 team in a bid for them to participate in their first ever FIFA World Cup competition.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Female U-17 team were unable to defeat their Guinean peers last December in the Mano River Union Cup in Makeni. Although the host played with valour, the Guineans were on top of situations as they took advantage of most of their chances.
Congratulations 👏🎉
