Sierra Leonean Female Boxer Sara Haghighat-Joo has reached the Semi-final of the Paris 2024 African Qualifiers.
Haghighat-Joo qualified after defeating Gisele Muamba Nyenbo from the Democratic Republic of Congo by a unanimous decision of the Scorecard of all 5 judges after 3 rounds Bout.
The Continental qualifying event for Paris 2024 is taking place from the 9th to the 15th September at the Dakar Arena.
Sara represented Canada in the past but switched alliances to Sierra Leone earlier this year.
The orthodox-styled boxer also made attempts to box for Ireland but failed. Her decision to box for the West African nation followed after her grandmother informed her of a generations link to the country.
Sierra Leone has never won a medal at the Olympic Games but Sara’s promising career is believed to change that.
Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad are confident for Sara’s qualification after her 9 minutes of brave performance in the quarter-final stage.
The Paris 2024 is expected to welcome a new crop of Olympians with an action delivered in a unique spirit of International celebration.
Congratulations
Sierra Leone has won a bronze medal at the South Korean Olympics in 1986 or so in free style diving by Arthur Brown.
