The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has fulfilled its promise by disbursing $1,500 allowances to each member of the national team.
During the celebration and the welcoming of the Sierra Queens for their historic victory at the 2025 WAFU Women’s Tournament in Mauritania.
The players have confirmed receipt of the funds, which were committed to them ahead of their recent international engagement.
Sierra Queens’ victory stands not only as a sporting milestone but as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the future of women’s football in Sierra Leone.
However, while the team appreciates the SLFA’s timely support, the players are now looking to the government for a more significant gesture in recognition of their contribution to national pride. They believe their performance deserves acknowledgment beyond the allowance and are hopeful that the state will step in to celebrate their efforts appropriately.
Further developments are anticipated as attention shifts to the government’s next move in honoring the team’s achievements.
Finally, Sierra Queens’ historic campaign in Mauritania did not just end with the championship trophy. The team brought home an impressive collection of individual accolades: four Woman of the Match awards, with three claimed by star goalkeeper Hannah Juna. Juna also earned the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper and Best Player awards. The fourth Woman of the Match award was won by Salamatu Kamara in the final clash against Senegal.
Congratulations keep it up
Bravo! We are proud of you.
