The National Sports Authority (NSA) on Wednesday received Solomon D. Kargbo following his election as President of the African Boxing Confederation, marking a significant milestone for Sierra Leone’s sporting community.
Kargbo was presented to NSA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai by Alhaji Comba, Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA), during a reception that underscored national pride and renewed commitment to the development of boxing in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Kargbo thanked the NSA and the people of Sierra Leone for their support, pledging to represent the country with distinction. “I’m representing Sierra Leone with pride. I’m grateful for this opportunity to serve,” he said, noting his determination to promote boxing across Africa while advancing Sierra Leone’s interests.
Dr. Abdulai congratulated Kargbo on his election, describing it as a major achievement for the nation. He reaffirmed the NSA’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at strengthening boxing, particularly in the organization of national events and programs.
Boxing stakeholders welcomed the development, noting that leadership at the continental level could help attract resources, training opportunities, and high-profile competitions to Sierra Leone. The SLBA reiterated its commitment to working closely with the NSA and the African Boxing Confederation to raise standards and expand participation in the sport.
The reception concluded with calls for unity among boxing administrators, coaches, and athletes to capitalize on the opportunity and build a stronger future for boxing in Sierra Leone and across the continent.
