R.E.C Primary School, Bassa Town, Waterloo, Sunday, 1st September 2024- In a continuing show of dedication to grassroots initiatives, SLPP East Rural District Chairman and Deputy Minister of Energy 1, Dr. Eldred Tunde Taylor, has once again demonstrated his commitment to community development by donating NLe 20,000 to Councilor Kadiatu Iyne of Ward 384.

This generous contribution is in support of the ongoing Chief Minister David Sengeh Under-12 football competition, themed “Say No to Drugs,” taking place at the Bassa Town playing field in Waterloo.

The donation, which came as a pleasant surprise to the competition’s organizing committee, was made as the tournament advanced to the Round of 16. During the handover ceremony, Dr. Taylor emphasized that the financial support was intended to ensure the smooth execution of the competition. He commended Councilor Iyne for her initiative in organizing such a meaningful event, which not only promotes football at the grassroots level but also raises crucial awareness against drug use among young people.

Dr. Taylor highlighted the importance of football in bringing communities together and noted that President Bio’s administration has been steadfast in its efforts to enhance the sport across Sierra Leone. He lauded the competition’s dual focus on nurturing young talent and fostering a drug-free environment, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to youth development and public health.

Constituency 108 SLPP Chairman, Mr. Aruna Jalloh, also praised Dr. Taylor for his unwavering support of grassroots activities in the district, referring to him as the GRASSROOTS CHAIRMAN. He encouraged the organizing committee to remain focused and determined in their efforts to ensure the competition’s success.

Councilor Kadiatu Iyne, the chief organizer of the competition, expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Taylor for his ongoing support. She acknowledged that Dr. Taylor’s contributions have been instrumental in the success of various initiatives she has undertaken in the district. She affirmed that the funds would be used effectively to facilitate the tournament and emphasized that, as a woman, organizing such a competition is a significant legacy for the district.
