The current Head of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, has raised concerns over his disqualification from the upcoming SLFA elections scheduled for August 2nd.
In a pointed response to a leaked list from the Ethics Committee, Brima questioned the committee’s decision, emphasizing his “spotless track record” and the backing of an official report from the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.
The leaked list, which surfaced recently, did not provide reasons for the disqualifications of Brima or the only female candidate, Ms. Aminata Bangura.
In his statement, Brima asserted that the Judiciary had previously confirmed there were no criminal records or disciplinary actions against him or any other candidates listed for the presidency.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Brima referred to a report from the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, which stated: “following a thorough check of the court records, the individuals listed do not have any pending or previous criminal cases, convictions, or disciplinary (punitive) sanctions recorded against them in any of the Superior Courts of Judicature in Sierra Leone.”
Brima expressed his disbelief at the committee’s decision, asking, “How can you disqualify a man with a spotless track record, backed by a judicial attestation from Sierra Leone?”
The Judiciary’s report was sent to the Ethics Committee in response to their request for information about the candidates’ legal standings, as part of the due diligence process mandated by the Right to Access Information Act, 2013.
