In response to the disturbing attack on referees during the FC Kallon versus Mogbwemo Queens FC match on February 9th, 2024, the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League Emergency Disciplinary Committee has delivered a decisive ruling on February 13th, 2024.
The emergency committee, tasked by the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League Board, thoroughly examined the incident which occurred at MK Field, Freetown. Reviewing the Commissioner’s Match Report and accompanying evidence, including images and videos, the committee outlined the sequence of events leading to the assault on referees by FC Kallon’s fans.
According to the findings, tensions were already running high during the match, with FC Kallon officials protesting and fans resorting to aggressive behavior towards match officials. Post-match, the situation escalated as FC Kallon’s fans stormed the pitch, physically assaulting the referees and pelting them with objects.
Identifying specific individuals involved, including Alhaji Mansaray, Safety and Security Coordinator of FC Kallon, Leornard Augiden, Welfare Officer of FC Kallon, and Abdul Hindolo Karim, the committee referenced relevant league rules to determine disciplinary actions.
Citing rules regarding club official misconduct, supporter responsibility, and penalties for assaulting match officials, the committee concluded that the actions of FC Kallon’s representatives were unacceptable and violated league regulations.
As a consequence, the committee imposed a six-month ban on the implicated individuals from participating or attending league matches and related activities. Additionally, each individual was fined Le 5,000.00 in accordance with league regulations.
Furthermore, FC Kallon was ordered to play all remaining home matches behind closed doors, without fans, for the duration of the 2023/2024 Women’s Premier League season.
And that, All home matches of FC Kallon are to be played behind closed doors with no fans, save for their team officials in respect of any match, for the remaining period of the 2023/2024 Women’s Premier League.
