Elon Musk’s neurotechnology company, Neuralink, has announced a groundbreaking device that could revolutionize the lives of those with vision loss.

The device, named BLINDSIGHT, has the potential to restore sight to individuals who have lost both their eyes and optic nerve.

According to Musk, BLINDSIGHT could even enable people who have been blind from birth to see for the first time. The device works by bypassing damaged areas of the visual system and directly stimulating the brain’s visual cortex.

While the initial vision quality may be low, similar to early video games, Musk suggests that BLINDSIGHT could eventually surpass natural vision. He even hinted at the possibility of enhanced vision capabilities, such as seeing in infrared, ultraviolet, or even radar wavelengths, a concept often seen in science fiction.

Musk expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their support in this groundbreaking development.
