Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), a flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC), has raised concerns about laws he believes are limiting free speech and civic space under the current government.

Speaking in a recent interview on an online TV program, JFK accused the Bio-led administration of tightening public space and making it harder for people to speak openly. He said this is creating fear and could lead to unrest if not addressed.

“If you want to call yourself a president, then call yourself a president. It is not a crown that makes the king,” JFK said during the interview. He continued by saying, “The liberty to talk is no more, and when the space is tightened, it becomes very dangerous.”

He warned that limiting space for free expression may lead to violence and called for more openness. He believes Sierra Leoneans should have the freedom to speak without fear of being punished.

JFK also spoke about the use of cyber laws in the country. He said that even though these laws exist, people are still being called to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for things they say online or in public.

“The way Sierra Leone is now, people cannot speak up because of fear,” he said, adding that the environment for free expression is getting worse.

He made these remarks while discussing his plans to contest for president in the 2028 general elections.
