The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, convened a crucial meeting with stakeholders on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, at the Ministry’s Conference Room on Gloucester Street to address the growing concerns of lawlessness and indiscipline in Sierra Leone, particularly in the capital city, Freetown.
During the meeting, Minister Lengor emphasized the urgent need for additional measures to combat street trading on walkways, hawking on major streets, and noise pollution in residential areas after midnight.
He highlighted the importance of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) engaging with commercial drivers to enforce regulations regarding passenger drop-off and pick-up points. Furthermore, he reiterated the commitment to sanitizing the 24 streets previously identified as problematic.

Minister Lengor remarked, “Lawlessness and indiscipline have engulfed the country, making it challenging for investors and development to thrive. One of my key goals is to make Sierra Leone one of the safest and most peaceful countries in the world.” He acknowledged that while some progress has been made, more efforts are required to change the narrative surrounding lawlessness.
The Minister commended the Task Force’s efforts, particularly those of the SLP and the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), urging them to continue enforcing laws to restore order in society. He warned, “If there is no compliance with rules and regulations, then our labor is in vain,” citing the increase in accidents attributed to lawlessness.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahr Senesie, reported that the SLP’s Community Relations Department is actively engaged in nationwide sensitization efforts regarding lawlessness and indiscipline. He noted the success of those operations, which have been notably bolstered by stakeholder engagement and partnerships.

The meeting also addressed various issues raised by members of the Task Force, including the Freetown City Council (FCC) and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA).
They reported major progress in removing traders from walkways and clearing right-of-ways, despite facing numerous challenges. Their commitment to supporting ongoing operations to enforce laws and ensure sustainability was reaffirmed.
The meeting concluded with a series of recommendations aimed at enhancing communication and involvement with media outlets to further disseminate information regarding law enforcement initiatives.
