Former Information Minister and senior member of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, has said he believes the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) will lose the next general elections in 2028.

Speaking during an online TV program, Hon. Kargbo said the country is currently going through very tough times under the SLPP government, and that many Sierra Leoneans are tired of the way things are going. He pointed to the ongoing hardship across the country as the main reason why the ruling party is likely to be voted out.

Hon. Kargbo noted that ordinary citizens are struggling to meet basic needs, and frustration is building across both urban and rural communities. He said these challenges have created a growing sense of dissatisfaction with the current leadership.

The veteran APC politician made these comments while responding to a popular question among Sierra Leoneans asking which party is better in governance between the APC and the SLPP.

In his response, Hon. Kargbo said the APC has a better track record from its time in power and added that, compared to what is happening now, the SLPP will not be able to retain power in the 2028 elections.

He explained that the rising cost of living and the daily struggles people face have made many lose hope in the current leadership. According to him, this frustration could push voters to choose a different direction in the next polls.

As the country moves closer to another election cycle, statements like this reflect growing political tension and a shift in public debate over who is best suited to lead Sierra Leone forward.
