Magistrate John Manso Fornah of the Pademba Road Magistrate’s Court No. 2 in Freetown has convicted and sentenced an 18-year-old nurse, Elizabeth Konneh, to 30 days’ imprisonment following her guilty plea to a charge of larceny.

Konneh was arraigned on a single count of Larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The charge sheet alleged that on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, at Crabtown in the Aberdeen community, Western Area, Freetown, the accused [now convict] unlawfully stole, through deception, a Tecno Spark mobile phone valued at Two Thousand Five Hundred Leones (NLe 2,500), property of one Sheka Papa Sesay.

The convict pleaded guilty immediately after the charge was read and explained to her.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sorie Conteh, confirmed that the accused had no prior criminal record and urged the court to consider the facts as charged. Konneh, who was not legally represented, pleaded with the court for forgiveness, expressing remorse and asking the magistrate to temper justice with mercy.

Magistrate Fornah while delivering his judgment, acknowledged that the accused had admitted guilt at the earliest opportunity, did not waste the court’s time, and was a first-time offender.

Taking these factors into account, he sentenced Konneh to 30 days imprisonment at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown, with an option to pay a fine of One Thousand Leones (NLe 1,000) to the state.

The court stated that the sentence serves both as a deterrent and as a call for responsible conduct, particularly among young professionals entrusted with public trust.
