Jagaban Movement Regional/Bombali District Coordinator, John Musa Koroma, has provided further details on the circumstances surrounding the proposed $200,000 investment by the Jagaban Movement to renovate the neglected APC Northern Region Office in Makeni.
Koroma, who was handling the matter on the ground, said the movement engaged several members of the APC leadership in an effort to facilitate the proposed renovation works.
In a WhatsApp conversation, Koroma disclosed that he held a meeting with a cross-section of the APC leadership, including APC Northern Region Chairman Ali Commoner Kargbo, Koinadugu APC Chairman and Bombali MP, Hon. Peter Yamba Koroma.
According to Koroma, the Jagaban Movement requested the Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for the proposed renovation works. He said they were initially informed that the document was with APC Bombali Deputy Chairman Emmanuel Ali Kargbo.
Koroma, however, said Emmanuel Ali Kargbo denied having the document and referred them to the party’s Deputy Secretary-General in Bombali. He said they were also unable to obtain the BoQ from the Deputy Secretary-General.
Koroma further explained that they were subsequently referred to an engineer in Freetown, who showed them an architectural plan for the project but allegedly declined to provide them with a copy.
He said the engineer also alleged that the APC Bombali Deputy Chairman had altered the process surrounding the proposed renovation.
According to Koroma, a meeting was later held at the Mayor’s Parlour in Makeni, with Mayor Abu Bakarr “Lamtale” Kamara aware of the engagement.
The Mayor has confirmed that he was aware of the matter and had held several meetings concerning the proposed project. However, he noted that a misunderstanding subsequently affected the progress of the initiative.
Despite the challenges, Koroma said the Jagaban Movement eventually engaged a contractor identified as “Little John” to conduct a needs assessment of the APC Northern Region Office.
He said the process was, however, eventually put on hold pending clearance from the APC party structure.
Koroma’s account provides further insight into the developments surrounding the proposed investment and the issues that have contributed to delays in the renovation of the APC Northern Region Office in Makeni.
