A police officer attached to the FSA Bank in Levuma, Lekpeyama Chiefdom, Kenema District, is in custody over allegations of robbery at the bank.
The officer, identified as Issa Bangura, was arrested following a break-in at the bank on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. According to reports, unknown individuals forcibly broke through the perimeter fence and back door, stealing a total of Le5,333 from the savings section.
Bank Manager Abdulai Kallon told this reporter that Officer Bangura was the first to inform him of the robbery around 6:15 AM. Upon arrival, Kallon confirmed visible signs of forced entry and missing cash. The incident was immediately reported to the Levuma Police Station, where Bangura was detained to assist with investigations.
In his statement, Officer Bangura claimed he left the bank premises at around 3:00 AM to prepare for prayers and returned at 6:00 AM, at which point he noticed the break-in.
Amid speculation that the bank was preparing to disburse Le600,000 for teacher salaries and small business loans, the manager clarified that while preparations were underway, the funds had not yet been received. He also confirmed a recent visit by the Managing Director, Board Chairman, and legal adviser from Apex Bank to brief stakeholders on the upcoming disbursement.
An audit team from Apex Bank, including the Chief Auditor, had visited the bank on Monday, July 21 — just one day before the robbery to fast-track the release of the funds.
Police investigations are ongoing. The bank has urged customers to remain calm and continue to have trust in its operations.

This is very bad
That officer must be thoroughly investigated. Why must he leave his duty post at that hour?
Evidence is yet to proof that the police officer actually involved into the alleged robbery
