The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced a series of new measures aimed at strengthening road safety, improving service delivery, and enhancing compliance with national traffic laws.

In a public notice issued today, the Authority revealed that starting Monday, 4th August 2025, it will commence operations of a Mobile Station to bring services closer to the public. The mobile unit is expected to offer efficient and effective road safety-related services across various locations.

To streamline payments for services provided, SLRSA has partnered with WANGOV, a digital payment platform. Representatives from WANGOV will be present on the mobile station to collect payments, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience for customers.

Additionally, the Authority will begin strict enforcement of Regulation 55 (6) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2011, which requires all vehicles to possess safety equipment, including a First Aid Kit. This safety equipment is now mandatory for all new vehicle registrations and will be made available for sale.

Effective 1st September 2025, in line with Regulation 2 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations, SLRSA will require all applicants registering a motor vehicle to present a Title of Ownership from the country of origin as proof of legitimate ownership.

Furthermore, the Authority has reminded the public of its obligation under Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act, 2007, to establish Vehicle Testing Centres. As such, all vehicles must undergo a Motor Vehicle Testing (MOT) before they can be licensed. The MOT service will be provided at no additional cost to verify the roadworthiness of each vehicle.

In another critical enforcement measure, the Authority has stated that vehicles carrying containers from the quay must meet the minimum road safety standards before operating on public roads.

Vehicle owners have been given until 1st October 2025 to ensure their vehicles are compliant with the new and existing regulations. SLRSA emphasized that these actions are part of its broader mandate to safeguard lives and improve road safety across Sierra Leone.

“Ignorance of the law is no excuse,” the notice concluded. “You have a responsibility to act safely; we also have a mandate to enhance road safety.”
