Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has graduated 154 students during a ceremony held at the Bintumani Auditorium in Freetown. The event, which highlighted the theme “Transforming the Future,” brought together government officials, education stakeholders, university representatives, and families to celebrate the academic and personal achievements of the Class of 2024.
Established in 2017 as Sierra Leone’s first foreign-owned university, Limkokwing has positioned itself as a leader in creative and innovation-driven education. Its graduates completed three to four years of academic and practical training across fields such as Creative Technology, Architecture, Business, and Communication.
Senior Vice President of the university, Dato’ Gail Phung, delivered the keynote address. She commended the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to view their degrees not just as credentials, but as tools to make meaningful contributions to society. She also underscored the university’s partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone in building national human capital.
“Graduation is not the end, but the beginning of a new journey. You have sacrificed sleep, endured pressure, and today you stand victorious. Your degree is not just a certificate, it is a tool to create impact,” she said.
Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Hon. Ramatulai Wurie, addressed the graduates, urging them to become job creators and ethical leaders. She emphasized the importance of innovation and initiative in contributing to national development.
“You are not just graduates, you are tranformer,” she declared. “Be innovators, be job creators. Do not wait to be invited to the table, build your own.”
Other speakers included Hon. Sulaiman Mario Conteh, a member of the University Court, and a representative from the university’s research faculty, who encouraged graduates to prioritize original thinking. Jasper Sandi from the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) recognized the university’s role in preparing students for the digital economy.
“At Limkokwing, creativity is not just taught, it is lived. You are not job seekers but thinkers and innovators,” he said.
The event also saw awards presented to outstanding students, including Racheal Williams, who was recognized for academic excellence.
“My success is a result of hard work, focus, and consistent sacrifice,” she shared.
Limkokwing University operates a global network with campuses across Asia, Africa, and Europe, and is affiliated with over 280 institutions in 77 countries. The university is also a member of the United Nations Academic Impact Initiative.
The graduation ceremony reaffirmed Limkokwing’s commitment to promoting creativity, innovation, and leadership among young people in Sierra Leone and beyond.
