The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has concluded its Criminal Session for 2025, with a total of 1,659 inmates currently held at correctional centers across the country.
Of that number, 1,561 are male, and 98 are female.
The session was presided over by Court of Appeal Judge, Hon. Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens. A range of criminal matters were brought before the court, and judgments were delivered based on the evidence and legal procedures.
The Criminal Session is part of the Judiciary’s ongoing process to ensure that cases are heard and dealt with within the legal calendar. It provides an opportunity for inmates awaiting trial or judgment to have their matters addressed.
The next Criminal Session will begin on September 16, 2025. That session is expected to begin under the new Criminal Procedure Act, 2025.
The Judiciary continues to carry out its responsibilities as part of its regular work within the justice system.
