The Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Engineer Alfred Jalil Momodu, has pledged to transform Sierra Leone’s struggling road network in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s development agenda.
Since taking office, Momodu has energized the SLRA with a new focus on long-term, preventive maintenance instead of short-term fixes. “The time has come for us to stop patching potholes and start building lasting roads,” a senior SLRA official said.
Key projects already underway include the rehabilitation of the Ferry Junction–Old Road axis and the Upgun Road–Brima Lane route—both long-standing bottlenecks for drivers.
Residents and business owners have welcomed the progress, expressing cautious optimism that better roads will reduce travel time, cut accidents, and create new economic opportunities. “Good roads mean more customers, fewer vehicle repairs, and safer travel,” said a commercial driver in east Freetown.
Momodu’s appointment is seen as a vote of confidence from President Bio, with the partnership between State House and SLRA hailed as a model of effective governance.
For many, the agency’s work is about more than infrastructure—it’s about restoring public trust. As projects take shape across the country, citizens are watching closely to see if this new era in road development will finally deliver lasting change.
