Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, presented the 2025 Presidential National Best Teacher Awards at the University of Makeni on Saturday, recognizing the nation’s top educators for their dedication and contribution to nation-building.

In his address, Dr. Jalloh hailed teachers as “nation builders” whose daily commitment shapes the country’s future. “Every Sierra Leonean, no matter their beginnings, can trace their journey back to a teacher,” he said.

“Doctors, engineers, farmers, security personnel, business people, and leaders  we were all shaped by teachers. They are not just instructors of knowledge, they are nation builders.”

He called on the audience to honor the educators with a standing ovation, highlighting their role in instilling hope, discipline, and character in young citizens.

Dr. Jalloh also outlined government efforts to strengthen education, including expanding access, training teachers, providing learning materials, and improving school infrastructure. He emphasized that teachers are central to all learning, and that the awards ceremony is a symbol of national appreciation for their work.

“Our commitment to education is unwavering,” Dr. Jalloh added. “Education has always been a core belief of the SLPP. Every child, rich or poor, deserves the opportunity to go to school and secure a decent future.”

The ceremony celebrated educators from across the country, underlining their vital role in shaping Sierra Leone’s future. Dr. Jalloh concluded: “Long live our teachers, long live Sierra Leone, and long live our commitment to education.”
