The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, has reaffirmed the country’s rising international reputation as an important part in supporting peace, security, and good governance.
Speaking at the Civic Day Series in the United States, Minister Kabba stated that Sierra Leone’s return to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2024-2025 term, after a 50-year absence, demonstrates the country’s strong diplomatic presence and dedication to international standards.
“Sierra Leone has presented itself as a peaceful voice, and that voice is recognised globally,” said the Minister.
He also highlighted Sierra Leone’s recent leadership milestone within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with President Julius Maada Bio taking over as Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in June 2025.
The role was assumed during the 65th Ordinary Summit in Abuja, Nigeria, which the Minister regarded as an historic event in the country’s democratic and regional leadership journey.
Minister Kabba also mentioned Sierra Leone’s election to the African Union Peace and Security Council for the 2024-2026 term, highlighting the country’s growing prominence in African security and diplomatic matters.
Furthermore, the Minister discussed the expansion of international collaboration by opening new embassies in Sierra Leone and establishing Sierra Leonean embassies overseas, which he said represents the country’s growing global connections and participation.
