The National Revenue Authority (NRA) and the Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) have pledged to deepen collaboration aimed at promoting transparency, public awareness, and improved revenue mobilization across the country.

This commitment followed a courtesy visit by the newly elected executive of the SLRU to the Commissioner General of the NRA, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, at the Authority’s headquarters on Gloucester Street, Freetown.

SLRU President Yeanor Kabia expressed appreciation to the NRA for the warm reception and underscored the media’s role in fostering public understanding of tax policies and compliance.

She noted that the union, which represents over 600 registered reporters nationwide, is preparing to hold its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 21 years this November where a new constitution will be adopted.

Mrs. Bangura, in her response, welcomed the collaboration and reaffirmed the NRA’s commitment to working with media institutions to enhance tax education and transparency. She emphasized the media’s vital role in helping citizens understand ongoing tax reforms and the importance of compliance to national development.

Also speaking at the meeting, Sahr A.K. Lamin, Manager of the NRA’s Public Affairs and Tax Education Unit, revealed plans to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for effective and transparent information sharing between the NRA and media practitioners. The move follows a previous engagement between the Authority and media representatives.

The meeting marks a renewed step toward stronger partnership between the NRA and the media sector—both crucial players in driving public trust, accountability, and national revenue growth.
