The Chief Executive of the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), Abdul M. Fatoma, on Thursday, 9th October, participated in an Open Justice Panel at the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit in Spain, where discussions centered on citizens’ trust and confidence in the public administration justice system.
The summit, co-organised by the Spanish Government and the OGP Secretariat, brought together over 2,000 government officials, civil society leaders, and policymakers from around the world to share experiences and best practices on promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
Fatoma, a prominent advocate for social justice, human rights, and the rule of law, joined a high-level panel on open justice that also featured a Supreme Court Justice and a Deputy Chief Justice from South Africa. The panel explored the role of open governance in enhancing judicial transparency, strengthening accountability, and rebuilding citizens’ confidence in public institutions.
Speaking during the session, Fatoma emphasized the importance of open and accountable justice systems as a foundation for democratic governance, noting that citizens’ trust can only be strengthened when institutions operate transparently and uphold fairness in the administration of justice.
Recognized as one of Sierra Leone’s leading human rights advocates, Fatoma continues to use his civil society platform to influence social change both nationally and internationally.
His participation at this global summit underscores Sierra Leone’s growing engagement in the global movement for open governance and justice sector reform.
The 2025 OGP Global Summit also addressed emerging governance challenges, including artificial intelligence, climate change, and the global energy transition, highlighting the need for collaboration between governments and civil society in building resilient and transparent systems that serve citizens effectively.
