The Executive of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) on Friday, 10th October 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.
The visit formed part of SLAJ’s ongoing outreach to partners aimed at fostering collaboration, exploring training and capacity-building opportunities for journalists, and strengthening institutional ties.
Led by SLAJ President, Alhaji Manika Kamara, the delegation engaged the Embassy’s leadership on possible areas of cooperation, including media training, exchange programs, and media investment opportunities that could support the professional development of journalists in Sierra Leone.

President Kamara expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for its past support to the media, particularly in training and professional development initiatives. He appealed for continued assistance in the form of short-term courses, provision of essential equipment, and institutional linkages between SLAJ and media organizations in China to enhance media capacity and professionalism.
Furthermore, the Former President of SLAJ, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, who joined the visit in his traditional role as ex officio, introduced the new executive to the Embassy. He commended the Chinese Embassy for its longstanding support and collaboration during his tenure and appealed for the relationship to be maintained and strengthened under the new leadership.
Mr. Dianbin Zhang, Minister-Counselor at the Chinese Embassy, congratulated the new SLAJ executive and lauded the Association’s consistent engagement with the Embassy over the years. He noted that the new team appeared dynamic and committed to advancing media development in Sierra Leone, assuring the Embassy’s willingness to continue its partnership with SLAJ.
Finally, the meeting climaxed with the presentation of an Award of Appreciation from SLAJ to the Chinese Embassy, recognizing valuable partnership and support during the tenure of former President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla.
