Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, has concluded an official visit to Cuba aimed at strengthening cooperation in communication, education, and culture between the two countries.
During his visit, Minister Bah held discussions with senior officials from the Institute of Information and Social Communication, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Communist Party’s International Relations Department. The meetings focused on opportunities for collaboration in media development, cultural exchange, and capacity building.
The Minister also visited several key media and cultural institutions, including Canal Caribe, Cubavisión Internacional, Radio Habana Cuba, the Union of Cuban Journalists, and the International Film School. He later toured cultural landmarks such as the Casa de África, the House of the Americas, and the Fidel Castro Center, which highlight Cuba’s deep historical and artistic heritage.
While in Havana, Minister Bah met with 18 Sierra Leonean medical students and dozens of other African students studying in Cuba on government scholarships. He commended the Cuban government for its continued support to African nations, recalling the country’s humanitarian contribution during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
“When Ebola struck and much of the world turned away, Cuba though not wealthy sent doctors to save Sierra Leonean lives,” he said.
Minister Bah described the visit as an opportunity to explore new areas of partnership and deepen the long-standing ties between Sierra Leone and Cuba.
He noted that Cuba’s strong sense of history and national pride continue to inspire solidarity and resilience across generations.
“Cuba is a living museum not of relics, but of resilience. It remembers, it resists, and it celebrates its people,” he stated.
The visit forms part of Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to build stronger international partnerships in information sharing, media exchange, and cultural cooperation.
