A new digital platform is now operational at the Guinea-Sierra Leone border, designed to streamline cross-border trade and government services by allowing payments and document processing to be completed online before travelers even reach the frontier.

The system, named WanGov, was deployed at the Gbalamuya Border Post through a collaboration between the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) and technology firm Korlie Ltd. Officials say the initiative aims to bring greater convenience, transparency, and efficiency to one of the country’s key border crossings.

The platform enables citizens and traders to digitally pay for a range of Sierra Leonean government services from anywhere, including from Conakry, Guinea. These services include business registration, permits, licenses, and other official documents. By processing documents in advance, users can simply pick them up upon arrival at the border, significantly reducing wait times and bureaucratic delays.

The launch demonstrates a significant step in Sierra Leone’s push toward a “citizen-focused, regional digital ecosystem,” proving that “cross-border digital trade is not a dream, but a reality,” according to a statement from the WanGov team.

The digital transformation is set to expand, with plans to soon extend the WanGov system to the Jendema border post on the Liberia-Sierra Leone frontier, further integrating regional trade and improving access to government services.
