The Confederation of African Football and the Sierra Leone Football Association have launched a three-day Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop in Bo City to strengthen safety and security standards across football venues in Sierra Leone.
The training involves stakeholders from the, Sierra Leone Police; Fire Department; Stadium Management; Ministry of Sports; Office of National Security; National Sports Authority.
SLFA Safety and Security Manager Mohamed Bowen Freeman, stressed, the Training of Safety Officers from all 18 Premier League clubs ahead of the 2025–26 league season to promote a safe stadium culture and aim for zero incidents during matches and related events.
Representing from Confederation of African Football, Zackariyah Diabate from Côte d’Ivoire and Abdul Lukooya Sekabira from Uganda, both from CAF’s Safety and Security Department.
Key focus areas of the training were to limit and modernized the Standardizing emergency and crowd-management procedures, strengthening coordination between clubs, stadium management, and national security services., Sharing CAF best practices to reduce match day incidents and improve spectator safety, building local capacity to enforce professional safety protocols across venues.
The workshop is part of CAF’s continental Safe Stadium Initiative, with Sierra Leone among 30 beneficiary countries. The program signals CAF’s confidence in the SLFA’s growing commitment to professional football management and to creating safer, more welcoming match day environments.
Workshop participants will return to their clubs and partner agencies to implement the procedures and practices learned during the sessions. The SLFA will continue coordination with CAF and national partners to monitor progress and promote consistent safety standards across the league.
