Four men appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1 on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, charged in a 17‑count indictment that includes counterfeiting, forgery, conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms.

The defendants – Umar Baimba Kamara, Joseph Kabia alias Manager, Alhaji Moseray Kabba and Momoh Kamara-were arraigned following a police operation that, the prosecution says, uncovered a sophisticated currency‑printing setup and a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The indictment lists offences including Conspiracy to Defraud, Conspiracy to Commit Felony, Possession of Forged Bank Notes, Counterfeiting of Bank Notes, and Forging Bank Notes contrary to Section 2(1)(c) of the Forgery Act 1913. It also charges the men with Possession and Custody of Arms Without Licence under Section 22(1) of the Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition Act 2023, Act No. 24 of 2023.

Prosecutors allege the accused conspired between 15 and 19 July 2025 to obtain goods by false pretences and that the group produced counterfeit Sierra Leonean banknotes in October 2024. Specific allegations state that on 19 July 2025 in Wellington, Alhaji Moseray Kabba counterfeited 250 twenty‑Leone notes purportedly issued by the Bank of Sierra Leone, and that Joseph Kabia was found in possession of the same notes on 21 July 2025 at Rokupa, Wellington.

According to the prosecution, Umar Baimba Kamara printed counterfeit notes on the same dates at Red Pump, Tengbeh Town, and was later found in possession of a Glock 22 pistol, two magazines and 44 live rounds without lawful authority.

Prosecution witness Sergeant Lahai M. testified that on 15 July 2025 he responded to a reinforcement request at the Wellington Police Post and executed a court‑approved search at a residence in Rokupa. Police, he said, found some of the accused hiding and seized counterfeit twenty‑Leone notes and a printing machine used for forging currency.

Sergeant Lahai further testified that, during subsequent questioning, one of the defendants’ led officers to Tengbeh Town where additional counterfeit notes, three laptops and the firearm with live rounds were recovered. Defence counsel challenged portions of the officer’s account during cross‑examination, but the witness stood by his testimony.

Magistrate Jah ordered all four accused to be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre. The matter was adjourned to 24 October 2025 for continuation of proceedings.
