The Resident Minister of the Northeast Region, Hon. Ibrahim Jalloh, has taken a significant step in the fight against substance abuse by launching the “Voices Against Kush” campaign in Makeni City.

The initiative, established on November 2, 2025, aims to complement the government’s efforts to curb the growing menace of kush and other illicit substances, particularly among young people.

During a meeting with team members at his residence, Hon. Jalloh emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders to identify hotspots, sensitize communities, and support victims of drug abuse. He noted that the campaign would also encourage citizens to report individuals involved in the drug trade to law enforcement authorities.

The key objectives of the campaign include:

Raising community awareness about the dangers of kush and substance abuse.

Identifying victims and providing rehabilitation support.

Reporting drug-related activities to law enforcement agencies.

Collaborating with security and community actors to identify and address high-risk areas.

Hon. Jalloh reaffirmed President Julius Maada Bio’s deep concern over the devastating impact of kush on communities and youth. He stressed that the President has directed that the issue be treated with utmost urgency and seriousness.

“As Resident Minister, I am determined to ensure that kush and all forms of harmful substances become a thing of the past in the Northeast,” Hon. Jalloh stated.

The meeting also discussed potential challenges to the initiative’s implementation, with team members urging stronger coordination and support. In response, the Minister assured that he would engage stakeholders at both local and national levels to accelerate the rollout of the campaign.

The “Voices Against Kush” campaign underscores the government’s renewed commitment to addressing substance abuse and fostering a safer, healthier environment for communities across the Northeast Region.
