The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has announced that the Kissy Road Cemetery  Fence is receiving a significant facelift as part of an ongoing beautification and public awareness effort.

According to the mayor, the transformation is being supported by The Carter Center’s Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign. The initiative aims to promote women’s right to access vital information and public services.

As part of the project, the Freetown City Council is partnering with a professional muralist to design and paint vibrant murals along the cemetery walls. The artwork will serve not only to enhance the appearance of the area but also to encourage more women to engage with essential municipal and social services.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr said the murals will play an important role in raising awareness about the importance of information accessibility for women, noting that informed women are better equipped to participate fully in community development and decision-making.

The facelift is expected to contribute to both the visual improvement of the community and the broader empowerment of women across the city.
