The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has unveiled a new operational uniform and introduced two teargas-equipped drones to enhance national security and improve public order management. The announcement was made on December 3, 2025, at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Freetown.

ACP Alieu Turay, Director of SLP Support Services, explained that the new uniform provides a clear and consistent identity for all officers. “The era of officers wearing different colored uniforms is now over,” he said, noting that personnel will dress uniformly according to their units and operations. He emphasized that the high-quality uniform is intended to enhance professionalism within the force.

ACP Turay also confirmed the arrival of two drones capable of delivering teargas to targeted locations, describing the technology as non-lethal and a key tool for managing public order disturbances.

ACP Brima Kamara, Head of SLP Media, reported that nationwide security remains calm. He announced measures to boost safety along the Lumley-Aberdeen beaches during the festive season, including the installation of 18 solar lights and 13 security cameras.

CSP Rev. Michael Laggah, Head of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), stated that the unit is intensifying efforts to curb criminal activities and drug abuse. On-the-spot drug testing of police officers has begun, with strict consequences for those testing positive.

The SLP’s weekly operations report indicated that 231 raids were conducted nationwide, resulting in 164 arrests. Freetown West recorded 20 raids with 18 arrests; Freetown East 23 raids with 33 arrests; North West 60 raids with 37 arrests; South 52 raids with 38 arrests; East 43 raids with 23 arrests; and North East 33 raids with 15 arrests.

SLP officials said the new uniforms, enhanced technology, and intensified operations are part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening public confidence and maintaining national security.
