The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has issued a strong warning to organizers of entertainment events, urging them to obtain a valid Tax Clearance Certificate before hosting any chargeable activities, including parties, musical festivals, album launches, and similar events.
The notice, published on December 5, 2025, highlights the legal requirements under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act of 2009 (as amended).
According to the NRA, it is an offence to host such events without securing a Tax Clearance Certificate from the Authority. Event organizers are reminded that they must also ensure the payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) based on the expected revenue from the planned event. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory.
In a statement, the NRA emphasized that it would immediately begin enforcement actions, including the closure of venues hosting non-compliant events.
The Authority also warned that equipment and other assets used by organizers who fail to present proof of GST payment and a valid Tax Clearance Certificate could be confiscated.
The NRA’s notice urges event organizers to comply with the tax requirements to avoid legal penalties and disruptions to their planned events. The Authority also provided a contact number and email for organizers seeking further information or clarification on the process.
