The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, through the Directorate of Hospital and Ambulance Services (DHAS), on 5th December 2025 continued its nationwide distribution of food items and essential provisions to healthcare workers on night duty-this time at the Julius Maada Bio Pediatric Centre of Excellence (JMBPCE).

The presentation ceremony, held in the JMBPCE conference hall,  was attended by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer-Clinical Services, Dr. med. Mustapha S. Kabba; Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, Mr. Ibrahim Foday-Musa; National Coordinator for NEMS, Dr. Songor Koedoyoma; and other DHAS staff.

The initiative, already rolled out at PCMH & ODCH and the Kenema Government Hospital, forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to motivate and support staff who provide critical healthcare services during night shifts. By supplying meals and essential provisions, the Ministry aims to boost morale and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality patient care throughout the night.

In her welcome address, Medical Superintendent Dr. Ayeshatu Mustapha thanked the Ministry’s leadership for its continued support. She noted that the centre has served over 2,500 patients in recent months and reaffirmed the staff’s commitment to delivering excellent and compassionate pediatric care. Introducing the Deputy CMO, Dr. Koedoyoma commended the leadership’s dedication to strengthening service delivery, describing the gesture as a reflection of intentional and quality-driven leadership.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Mustapha Kabba expressed appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the JMBPCE team. He underscored the importance of recognition in the health sector and encouraged the management to sustain night-shift support even beyond the Ministry’s direct contributions. He urged staff to uphold professionalism, empathy, and responsible stewardship of the facility, which he described as the country’s leading public pediatric hospital. Dr. Kabba also announced that the Ministry will introduce staff buses in Freetown by March 2026 to support healthcare workers across major hospitals.

In a vote of thanks, Matron Issiatu Marah expressed profound gratitude to the Ministry’s leadership, noting that in her 20 years of service, this was the first time such support had been extended to hospital staff. She described the initiative as timely, motivating, and deeply appreciated, and assured the leadership of the staff’s commitment to improved service delivery.
