A High Court in Freetown has sentenced Senesie Kalokoh to 12 years in prison for breaking into a government health centre and stealing medical equipment and consumables.

Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura delivered the sentence on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, after convicting Kalokoh of office breaking and larceny contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The court found that on April 13, 2025, Kalokoh broke into the Bumpeh Community Government Health Centre in Kono District. He stole items belonging to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation valued at a total of Le 48,685.

The stolen inventory included critical medical equipment such as 10 sugar testing machines, five blood pressure (BP) testing machines, and a solar light. The convict also made off with consumables, including 100 packets of medicines, 20 packets of biscuits, and four crates of soft drinks.

In his plea for mitigation, Defense Counsel A. O. Kamara urged the court to be lenient, describing Kalokoh as a first-time offender, a husband, and a father of two who regretted his actions.

However, Justice Bangura rejected the plea for a lighter sentence. In his ruling, the Judge revealed that despite the defense’s claim of good character, the convict’s late father had previously described him in a police statement as a “notorious thief.”

Justice Bangura termed the crime “despicable,” emphasizing that theft from health facilities directly endangers the lives of vulnerable citizens.

“If conduct like that of the defendant is not checked, it will deprive many citizens who are to benefit from medical supplies provided by the government, including the wife and children of the convict,” Justice Bangura stated.

State Prosecutor C. R. Sesay had earlier requested a sentence in strict accordance with the law. Kalokoh has been transferred to a correctional centre to begin his term.
