Njala University has reaffirmed its role as a national partner in peace and development by honouring Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Williams Fayia Sellu with an Honorary Award of Distinction for his contribution to national security and responsible leadership.

The ceremony, held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, brought together senior security officials, academics and invited guests, underscoring the strong collaboration between higher education and national institutions.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sahr Yomba Senesie, described the recognition as a defining moment, reflecting how visionary leadership within the Sierra Leone Police has helped shape public trust and discipline.

Njala University’s Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, emphasized that the university’s tradition of honouring deserving leaders is rooted in its mandate to nurture knowledge, values and public service. He said the award to IGP Sellu was not merely ceremonial, but an affirmation of ethical leadership, accountability and respect for human dignity.

According to Professor Koroma, Njala University reserves such honours for individuals whose impact strengthens national institutions and supports development. He noted that IGP Sellu’s leadership has contributed to peace, security and institutional credibility essential pillars for education, investment and growth.

After the university orator delivered the official citation, the award was presented to IGP Sellu, recognizing his service to national security, public order and institutional leadership.

In his response, IGP Sellu expressed gratitude, describing the award as humbling and deeply meaningful. He highlighted that the recognition also reflects the contribution of many Njala University alumni serving within the Sierra Leone Police.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu, President of the Police Wives Association.
