The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Abdul Kargbo, has raised serious concerns over the ongoing constitutional review process, calling for it to be lawful, inclusive, and fully participatory.

Speaking on the matter, Kargbo emphasized that the constitutional review must itself be constitutional and should involve all political stakeholders. He stressed that the process must be broad-based, with meaningful participation from civil society organizations, political parties, traditional leaders, women, youths, and representatives from all facets of national life.

According to him, the review process should not be micro-managed or driven by narrow interests. Instead, it must reflect the collective will of the people.

Kargbo further stated that the All People’s Congress (APC) is not opposed to constitutional review. On the contrary, he noted that the party has consistently expressed strong interest in the process.

He reiterated the APC’s belief that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and must reflect the aspirations and desires of the people.

“The Constitution is not a document to be manipulated, nor should it be designed to favor one political side,” Kargbo said. “It must take a holistic view of the nation and represent the interests of all citizens, not those of a single political party.”

He concluded by expressing the APC’s dissatisfaction with what he described as the lack of inclusiveness in the current review process, urging authorities to adopt a more transparent and representative approach.
