Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, on Tuesday, 9th January 2025, led a major cleanup operation in Freetown along the Congo Town main motor road as part of efforts to improve road safety and ease traffic flow in the area.
The operation, carried out by a specialized team of police officers under the direct supervision of the Inspector General, focused on identifying and removing hazards that have contributed to congestion and increased the risk of accidents.
Among the targets were abandoned vehicles, stationary tricycles, commonly known as kekehs, and other physical obstructions along the roadway.
Police authorities said the initiative is aimed at restoring order on one of the capital’s busiest highways while ensuring safer passage for motorists and pedestrians.
The Sierra Leone Police noted that the exercise forms part of a broader road safety strategy to address traffic-related challenges across Freetown and other major urban centers.
The cleanup operation is ongoing, with officers continuing efforts to clear obstructions and reduce risks to road users along the Congo Town corridor.
