The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has convened Vice-Chancellors and Principals of Sierra Leone’s tertiary institutions to discuss reforms aimed at enhancing education quality, modernizing management systems, and aligning universities with national development priorities.

The high-level meeting focused on policy reforms, quality assurance, digital transformation, and strategic partnerships, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to improving the standards of higher education nationwide.

Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between the ministry and institutions, ensuring that curricula meet labour-market demands, comply with Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) accreditation requirements, and incorporate digital accreditation processes for efficiency.

Deputy Minister Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara announced plans to expand the WanGov Digital Platform to universities, which would streamline fee payments and academic management, pending Cabinet approval.

The meeting also underscored progress on a harmonized National Qualifications Framework, designed to enhance quality assurance, learner mobility, and recognition of prior learning, while opening doors for international research collaborations.

Institutional leaders provided updates on admissions growth, infrastructure development, digital reforms, governance improvements, and community engagement, reflecting their ongoing efforts to raise standards and strengthen university operations.

The engagement demonstrates MTHE’s resolve to modernize tertiary education, improve student outcomes, and equip graduates with skills needed for Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
