The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi, has conducted a strategic site inspection of the Kailahun Water Supply Project as part of her 100-day assumption-of-office plan, emphasizing a hands-on approach to strengthening service delivery and institutional performance.
The Kailahun project is part of the Government-funded Six Towns Water Supply Project, which seeks to expand access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water and sanitation services across Sierra Leone. During the visit, Ing. Jabbi and her team inspected rehabilitation works at the Kailahun Water Treatment Plant and reviewed progress on the construction of a new Kailahun Station Office.
Accompanied by Ing. Yankuba Jusu Tarawally, Director of Project Management, and Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie, Director of Operations, the MD said the visit is a critical element of her 100-day plan, which emphasizes accountability, hands-on engagement, and firsthand assessment of SALWACO facilities.
“The purpose of this visit is to assess realities on the ground, identify operational challenges, and ensure that projects are implemented to acceptable standards. My vision is to see SALWACO operate as a functional and viable institution that meets the water needs of our people,” she said.
Ing. Tarawally reaffirmed his directorate’s commitment to effective project supervision, quality assurance, and timely delivery, stressing adherence to technical standards to ensure long-term sustainability. Ing. Lebbie highlighted the operational benefits of the rehabilitation works, noting that upgraded facilities will improve efficiency, reliability, and water coverage in Kailahun Township.
Station Manager Mr. Aiah Yongah welcomed the delegation, describing the visit as motivating for staff. He briefed the team on current operations, challenges, and progress, pledging full cooperation to support SALWACO’s strategic objectives.
The inspection reinforces SALWACO’s commitment to accountability and improved service delivery and aligns with the Government of Sierra Leone’s broader development agenda to expand access to safe water and sanitation nationwide.
