The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), through its Technical Department, has successfully concluded a three-day refresher course for CAF Licence A and B coaches drawn from across the country.
The intensive programme aimed to update local coaches on contemporary coaching methods, tactical innovations, and international best practices to strengthen the technical foundation of football in Sierra Leone.
The course combined classroom instruction with on-field practical sessions, enabling coaches to immediately apply modern methodologies in training and match situations. Sessions covered contemporary coaching concepts, tactical planning, player development, and coach–athlete management, with emphasis on aligning local practice with global standards.
The refresher programme attracted strong participation from the Leone Rock Premier League and other regions, featuring leading tacticians including Amidu Karim, Musa Kallon, Alfred “Zappa” Koroma, Hassan Malik Manasaray, Fatmata Turay, and Mohamed Lamin Kamara. Coaches from youth, women’s, and senior levels were in attendance, reflecting SLFA’s push for broad-based technical development across all tiers of the game.
The programme was led by SLFA Technical Director John Edward Keister, a CAF-certified coaching instructor, who facilitated sessions focused on enhancing technical competence, tactical understanding, and professional coaching standards. SLFA Referees Manager Alhaji Sanusi Rashid delivered targeted modules clarifying key Laws of the Game and improving coach–official relations. Sorie Kamara, Technical Director at the National Sports Authority and former national volleyball coach, also contributed cross-sport perspectives on leadership and athlete management.
SLFA described the refresher as part of its ongoing commitment to capacity building and coach education. By reinforcing modern coaching practices and strengthening collaboration between coaches and match officials, the association aims to raise competitive standards and support long-term player development nationwide.
The SLFA plans to continue similar programmes and expand technical workshops to reach more coaches at regional and grassroots levels.
