Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security, and Energy Sector Lead overseeing efforts to improve Sierra Leone’s energy situation, has donated a 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system with battery storage to the headquarters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The solar power system was formally presented on Tuesday morning to the National Chairman of the SLPP, Mr. Jimmy Batilo Songa, and members of the party’s executive during a brief ceremony at the party headquarters in Freetown.
A day earlier, Dr. Yumkella had briefed the National Secretary General, Mr. Paran Umar Tarawally, on the scope, technical design, and objectives of the renewable energy installation.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Yumkella described the intervention as a modest but meaningful contribution that reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and responsible leadership. He noted that the installation would ensure an uninterrupted power supply at the party office while demonstrating practical, climate-conscious action aligned with national development priorities.
“By investing in clean and reliable energy solutions, we are reducing operational challenges and reinforcing our national commitment to climate action and sustainable development,” Dr. Yumkella said.

Receiving the donation, SLPP officials expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They noted that the solar power system would significantly reduce dependence on erratic grid electricity and fuel-powered generators.
The donation further underscores Dr. Yumkella’s leadership in advancing renewable energy, climate resilience, and institutional efficiency, consistent with his role in shaping Sierra Leone’s energy and climate policy direction.
