Public outrage is mounting across social media platforms following the emergence of a video showing a physical altercation between a Sierra Leone Police officer and a local tricycle (Keke) rider.
The video, which has been widely shared, captures a tense standoff on a public street that rapidly escalates into violence.
In the footage, a traffic police officer is seen confronting a young keke rider wearing an orange safety vest over a white hoodie. The two exchange heated words while standing next to a yellow commercial tricycle owned by the rider.
The confrontation turns physical when the police officer is captured raising his hand and forcefully slapping the Keke rider across the face. The rider, visibly shaken and angry, begins shouting at the officer, repeatedly asking onlookers and bystanders if they witnessed the assault.
The footage has triggered a wave of condemnation online, with citizens calling out the officer’s behavior as an abuse of power and an unacceptable use of force. Many social media users are demanding immediate accountability, arguing that law enforcement officers should defuse conflicts rather than initiate physical violence.
“This is so embarrassing,” noted in the comment section, “A police officer should not be using his hands to slap a citizen. This officer needs to be suspended or sacked for this kind of misbehavior.”
see video below:

He should be sacked. Imagine the kind of violence he will inflict on the rider when the get to the station
This is a case of abuse of powers and misconduct, IGP needs to do more.
Missing piece! Kekeh rider also slapped the police and reached out for a stick to retaliate.
He has no right to slap the rider either using abusive languages on him.
The police should be thankful for the type of Rider he meet. If it was me I should have been in jail now because I will slap him twice for any slap me I will repeat it twice to him
To be honest I am a graduate student who is now a Keke rider I know I always mistake in the traffic law but handle the matter the correct way but to slap me or abuse I think it’s above the law
Before people start jumping to conclusion and acting as judge and jury, what led to the escalation of this incidence should be known. These riders of bikes and tricycles are lawless, and they seem to be a low to themselves. If this rider had been riding in Accra or the US, he would probably be dead. These police officers in some of the cities I have traveled to do not waste time. When they stop you, they don’t have time for arguments.
Every day, we hear and watch videos of young girls explaining how they were almost victims of kidnap from keke riders.
Just be careful how you jump to judgements. The police officer who we are all clamoring to be sacked or suspended today, may see your life or the life of your child or relative in danger tomorrow and not lift a finger to help because you all condemned him today.
May thus incident happen to you one
