The Inter-Territorial Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ITCABIC) has convened at the Bishop’s House in Makeni City, bringing together Catholic bishops from Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia for a high-level regional summit running from January 19 to 24, 2026.

Hosted by the Bishop of Makeni, Rt. Rev. Dr. Bob John Hassan Koroma, the gathering focuses on redefining the Church’s mission in the sub-region, calling on the faithful to move beyond being merely “pilgrims of hope” to becoming “active architects” of a more just, peaceful, and inclusive society.

Discussions at the conference focus on the critical challenges confronting the region, including deepening socioeconomic hardship, growing inequality, and the persistent threat of tribalism and social division. The bishops are also reviewing their collective pastoral vision and strategies for the years ahead, with an emphasis on strengthening collaboration across national borders.

The conference underscores the Catholic Church’s enduring role as a moral compass and a unifying force in West Africa, committed to promoting social cohesion, ethical leadership, and the renewal of shared values in an increasingly complex regional context.
